But I know that I'll have to try and learn to deal with it eventually so I shall simply write what comes out and try and explain and apologise and... remember. This is what the police have told me so I do not know how accurate this account is, but it's all I have to go on.
2 months ago, on the 10th of July, Rivette was walking home from Camden station after having spent the day at the Tate Modern with her brother. She turned down an alleyway near to the Electric Ballroom and was pounced upon by a gang of approximately 4 youths aged between the ages of 18-21. I can only assume they were after her camera which was around her shoulder, and they must have been able to tell that it was extremely expensive. However, after letting go of the camera, which would not have been too big a deal, although expensive, but she had insurance to cover the most part of the cost, the gang took her down to another secluded alleyway and preceeded to pin her against the ground and take turns with her...
Leaving her virtually naked and traumatised and near dead, they ran off with her bag and camera. Only 2 of these boys have been caught, the police are still on the hunt for the other two. Young girls and women in the Camden area, please take care when walking alone at night. She was not found until the morning the next day by a young market stall trader, but by then it was too late. She was rushed to hospital but the doctors could do nothing for her broken and bruised mind and body. She died at 10:34 am on the 11th of July 2004.
Her work still lives on through this website and her own, and through the collectors and purchasers of her photography and artwork.
She will never be forgotten, such a great spirit, always kind and generous, always happy and laughing, with a creative idea in her head every second. The world will never meet another Rivette, Rivette will go on to live in her new world in eternal ecstasy in Elysium. Be at peace Rivette.
I love you.
